Purpose: To investigate the properties of electric charges.

Materials:

            Balloons.

Paper pieces                 Balloon             String               Tape

Glass Rod                    Wool                            Plastic             

 

Procedure:

  1. Bring the glass rod next to the paper pieces.
    1. Describe what happens.
  2. Rub the glass rod with the plastic bag for a minute. Then bring the bag near the rod.

    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  3. Bring the rod next to the paper pieces again.
    1. Describe what happens.
    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  4. Blow up a balloon. Drop a couple of the pieces of paper on the balloon.
    1. Describe what happens.
    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  5. Rub the balloon with wool for a minute. Then bring the balloon near the wool.
    1. Describe what happens.
    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  6. Drop a couple of the pieces of paper on the balloon again.
    1. Describe what happens.
    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  7. Blow up the other balloon. Use a string and the tape to hang it from the lab table about 50 cm down.
  8. Rub the other balloon with the wool for about a minute. Bring it near the hanging balloon.
    1. Describe what happens.
    2. Use charges to explain what happens.
  9. Use the string and the tape to hang the second balloon from the lab table right next to the first one. Rub both balloons with the wool

  10. Clean up the lab area.
